Neutral diode ?

Ok after alot of forum searching...I'm stumped. The CBX one day just didn't start. The neutral light came on but nothing on the starter button. Battery good, starter motor good, solenoid good... apart from, there didn't seem to be any ground to the solenoid. (green and red wire)
So I traced the green and red wire back to the neutral diode. I don't know how you test one of these things but it have continuity between the terminals. I replaced the diode with a small piece of wire to create a direct connection and the bike now turns over on the button.
Do I need this diode? Even without the diode it starts only in neutral...
Does this mean my diode has passed on to a better place?

I'd be greatfull If anyone can shed any light on this thanks.

Is it the "silicone rectifier" in the headlight bucket that you removed?

Thanks, opps I don't know how I managed to post it twice I wondered why I haddn't gone first time.

It is that rectifier in the headlight bucket.

The bike doesn't turn over at all when the rectifier is in place, clutch in or out. It only turns over when I bypass the rectifier/diode

Hi,

You may have two problems then:
- the diode is in the neutral light circuit, if it fails you wont get power to the starter button when in neutral
- the clutch switch feeds the starter button with power when clutch is pulled in
- purpose of the diode is to stop the neutral light coming on when in gear, but when pulling the clutch in
- if the diode fails, would expect the clutch switch circuit still to work
- so suspect you have a problem both with the diode and the clutch switch (make sure it is connected at the left handlebar switch

You're bang on the money with the clutch switch. On closer inspection one of the wires wasn't quite connected. It looked fine but just wasn't quite seated properly.
It starts fine now! The sun's shinning I'm off for a celebration ride!...any excuse!
