No turn signal lights
Hello!!
After getting my CBX running after a long storage I see my signal lights aren't working.
Everything else is fine other than the turn signals.
I can hear a relay that is near the battery click once when ever I activate either left or right handle bar switch.
Could this be the signal flasher?
I'm guessing this might indicate the switch is working, and the problem is elsewhere.
Do the signals share a common ground ??
I can't remember if the signal lights are also running or parking lights but they never come on.
As mentioned everything else electrically works just not the signals.
Any input is appreciated!
Thanks
Randy

Re: No turn signal lights
Yes it could be the flasher.
EL-12 from an automotive store will work and should be cheaper than a part from Honda.

Re: No turn signal lights
Excellent advice Steve!!
Sometimes it's the obvious.
I noticed a green wire near the flasher that wasn't connected to anything.
I can't find my shop manual, any idea if the green possibly white trace is a ground ??
Everything is working fine now.
Appreciate the help.
Thanks
Randy

Re: No turn signal lights
On the flasher the grey and white/green wires are plugged in and the green wire is not attached.

The green wire is a test and put there to confuse you.
It does not go to anything !!
Best,
Phil

In some markets (well just Germany as far as I can tell), the flasher unit has three connections. No idea why when two will do!FalldownPhil wrote:The green wire is a test and put there to confuse you.

Re: No turn signal lights
You can use a three terminal flasher, which requires a ground. That's what the green wire is for.

Re: No turn signal lights
I would check for voltage at the flasher. Which wire gets 12V when turning the key to on position and what happens to voltage when you turn on signal lights. If it's still 12V, check second wire if it has voltage, if not, it's your flasher.
If you lose voltage on the first wire when you turn on the signals, problem could be elsewhere, possibly handlebar switch.
Alternatively you could try tapping on the flashe with the screwdriver handle to see if it got stuck or, disconnect both wires from it and connect them together briefly to see if signals go on.
I don't know how long your bike sat and in what conditions it sat in but I would disconnect all handlebar switches, clean and lube all connections with high quality electric lubricant. Do the same with all electric connections under the tank, seat and all light connections

Re: No turn signal lights
Good comments, Sasha, regarding checking other connections. ESPECIALLY, be certain to check all connections in the charging circuit for ANY corrosion. Clean them and coat with good dielectric grease. Even a circuit that indicates good at the moment can be operating with some increased corrosion load. It will lead to eventual failure and/or component damage.

Re: No turn signal lights
Guys, I appreciate all the kind replies!!
Steve pointed me in the right direction as the flasher was defective and an automotive unit works fine.
I had several on hand and noticed some were better than others as far as flashing regularity.
While I modified the bike considerably I kept the stock wiring intact and un hacked but checked everything before the flasher !!
I grounded the stray green wire even though it was grounded but probably should leave it loose??
The bike has been stored indoors and kept dry all these years so there is no sign of corrosion anywhere.
All seems good now and I'm hoping for my first ride this weekend after years of inactivity.
Thanks
Randy
