First I want to say that this is a fantastic site. I have spent some time playing catch up. Excellent build threads, tech, mech...truly awesome.
My name is Henry and I have been a kawi rider for years. Currently my buds and I are land speed racing on pavement.
Wilmington Ohio and Loring AFB.
Bike of choice is the ZX12R. NA & turbo. Proud to be apart of several accomplishments. Worlds fastest NA Kawasaki, standing 1&1.5 mile: 222.xxx and 226.xxx mph.
Also Worlds Fastest Kawasaki 1.5 mile @ 266.xxx.
I have personally only been 201.xxx mph but hope to get closer to my AA lic soon.
What's 49 mph....LOL
Team goal for 2017 is to break 263 in the mile and 2nd team to 270+
With that said I wanted to do something a little more civil than my street 12(same bike I went 201 on) so I started looking at
KZ900s and the like. The six cyl kz1300 was intriguing but the shaft drive, straight up and down look of the engine, water cooling just could not be made to look cool.
If I'm slowing down I want to look good. LOL
and then.....it happened....YouTube....
YouTube clips of piped CBXs!!!!!!!!!!
Pics of modded CBXs!!!!!!!!!
I M U S T H A V E.......
Phew, back to reality. I know nothing of this angel of motorcycles....which....has lead me to this fine forum.
So I want to thank you fine folks in advance as I continue to read the outstanding information you have kindly provided.
Side note, on Craig's list here locally a 80s cbx prolink? The grey/silver with bags and a fairing was for sale. Found at a school garage. Donated years ago and unmolested( allegedly ) with only 2 miles on it. $6200?
I did not purchase it. It is not listed as of a week or so ago.
Did I miss out???
What's the protocol for vetting one of these beauties out and securing a good example?
Thanks again!!!
H

Welcome Henry! You will for sure be slowing down on a CBX, no matter what kind you want. Are you looking for something stock to ride, a project to heavily modify or something else? The Pro-Link school bike may or may have not been a good deal - they need careful scrutiny and a good title to be worth the money many are asking for them. Let us know what kind of CBX you're interested in and we can get more specific.

As a newbie to CBX's its a good thing you let the school bike pass, you will never know how many teenagers "rebuilt" that bike. Take your time and the right bike will find you.

Thank you daves79 and mouse. Good won't sweat the school bike.
I admire all the heavily modded bikes, wow some real skilled people on this site. The speed triple suspended CBXs are beautiful. The bikes with the zrx swingarm look real good too. The gentleman that hung the duc 999 hardware on his was something else.
I think I'm looking to do something similar to the red bike in the "RC Enterprises" exhaust thread. Lowered a bit, kosman spokes and a exhaust. The RC exhaust is very cool. I like the pipes on both sides of the bike. 6 into 1 good too though.
What exhaust config gives the best sound from this 6 cyl.?
The Kaw I ride has a few inherent weaknesses. Clutch basket , stater/rec, brakes need good pads and lines to be moderately effective.
What are the weak points of the cbx and parts availability ?

That is the million dollar question!color me gone wrote: What exhaust config gives the best sound from this 6 cyl.?
The answer is entirely subjective.
I personally like the sound from a Gary Wolf 6 into 1 exhaust, such a soulful howl from them. Hard to find due to limited production of them back in the 80's.
78/79, 80 have Front forks that are capable but should be swapped out for larger ones if you are a spirited rider.
