New member Calgary Alberta Turbo CBX

Post by laverda1200 »

Hi All

I joined a while ago here and have been lurking, thought it is time I introduce myself.

there is a 14 page rebuild thread of my 79 CBX turbo, with a number of photos, starting in 2014, to be found on CBX World, here :text-link: http://cbxworld.com/modules.php?name=Fo ... ic&t=15861 There are also a number of threads in the technical forum there on CBX world re carburation, jetting, turbo specifics, ignition timing, etc.

not going to repeat it all here, the 1979 Honda CBX with Blake turbo manifolds and Rajay 300 series turbo is now "finished" (at least as far as a project like this is ever finished) and is up and running, registered and insured for street use. Engine internals suited to turbo charging, including Falicon crank, special rods, enlarged cylinder liners, custom pistons, etc., etc. The limiting factor now is the stock engine castings........

I had quite a few teething problems, even after going completely through the engine the first time I still had to deal with breaking some head bolts under boost, blowing oil out of various spots, had to rebuild the turbo twice before I got it right, improved crankcase venting, used all woven stainless steel lines, Aeroquip fittings, Mikuni HSR 42 carb, Metmachex braced swing arm, and the complete front end and brakes from an 82 CBX. I have done all the work myself.

I know many forum members will be chasing strict CBX factory originality and a CBX modified like mine is not to everyone's taste. In my defence, the engine modifications and original addition of the turbo (as well as the late 70's- early 80's airbrush "art") was all done in period in the very early 80's. I have just returned it to its former early 80's glory with the added benefit of more current technology and materials. Hearing it run was worth the work, the sound coming out of the straight unbaffled pipe out of the turbo is ubelievable........ :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:

Best Regards

It takes a special person to follow a project like that to a successful ending or as you alluded to, as good as place as any to stop. LOL

Purists or not most people appreciate the work it takes to get an old hot rod relic like yours up and breathing again.
The ICOA has a long history of supporting and appreciating the guys who campaign their CBX's, Turbo CBX land speed holder, Tom Niemeyer and his son, 1/4 mile dragbike Mark Sproul and a couple road racers over the years, Dr Tom comes to mind.

So feel free to post away Paul, we get it.

Just thought I'd mention, you have to be a member of CBXWorld to view the link - some here aren't for one reason or another.
