I am in the process of restoring the gauges on my '79 CBX.

The face plate itself is red / orange plastic, the back is painted silver, and the front is painted black / white to give the lettering etc. The orange / red on the front is just the plastic face plate showing thro' - those areas not being painted. Then sunlight fades the orange / red plastic that is visible over time.

Where the odometer is cut out, those edges are also painted silver.

Thanks,

Paul.

Thanks,

Some of the restorers make these edges red. I think it is "Pistol Pete". I recall a different thread, where we pointed that out. That caused my original comment.

I spoke to my uncle tonight, he told me he fell in love with the industrial design of the bike from the first time he ever saw it. He had the dealer install the 6 into 6 exhaust before he even took delivery of the bike as he said he didn't like the look of the 6 into 2 stock exhaust. He also told me he didn't recall riding the bike much but did remember having fun doing but outs on it.

As far as the sport package, what is that exactly?

Sports kit was a option, lower bars/ shorter control cables and rear set footpegs, about $180 back in the day, very expensive if you can find them today...would've bought it myself if I knew about them back then...it sounds all very good, nice "barn" find...
CBX a work in progress, still improving...GS1150EFE completed and awaiting modifications.....RD350, remnants in boxes scattered throughout the garage

...and was not available until after the 1980 model was introduced. And I don't know, if there was a 6-6 in 1978, when most of the 1979 models were built and sold.

Goobz could have a '78 production that remained unsold until '80 or later, and the dealer had a sport kit and 6x6 pipes he wanted to unload as well.
