Hi guys, a little history/story. My first bike was a new 1976 Honda CB550F SuperSport. It was a great starter bike but soon grew out of it.
Started to look for a replacement ,but nothing was really getting me excited. ie: GS750 , nice but not powerful enough, and not much different that the CB750 and the z900 was nice but still didnt fire me up. You had the GL1000, the yamaha xs1100, both shaft drive and a bit heavy. Also was the benelli 900si, bmw 900, and the ducati.
Then ( i think ) the Cycle mag came out in Feb 1978 with the CBX on the cover. Worlds Fastest Production Motorcycle. Forgive me if I get some dated or info wrong , it's been a long time!
By this time my uncle had bought the local honda dealer and i ran there with the copy of the mag, saying "I WANT ONE!" They had not even heard about the CBX ? But within a few months i had my choice of either color silver or red. As far as i know in had the first one in Pittsburgh . They sent a truck to Baltimore to pick up the two CBXs so we didnt have to wait for the shipper. I took the silver one.
Lots more stories to tell, but i'll save most of them for a night around the camp fire.
I was also involve with one of the first CBX groups , CBX Excalibur's , Dan from Detriot, Kevin Nudgent from Avon on the lake,( if anyone knows these guys let me know , haven't seen/heard from them in over 30 yrs) and others. I have the old news letters from the group stored away, i'll have to get them out and pdf them.
I have to get the vin and build date and post it up.
Someday , maybe i'll pack it up and ship it to TIMMs for a restore. It surely needs it.
Hope to make it next year for the annual.

Jimmy: I probably know you and I'm sure we've met. I'm just up the road in Knox and also go way back to the Xcalibers. Give me a shout sometime and we'll have a look at your CBX. Interested in the serial numbers.
