Hi, new member from Mexico City

Post by rsuarez »

Hello everyone, my name is Ramon and I am very glad to be the new owner of a 79.

I am from Mexico City and I am fervent servant of an American software company. I run their Latin American business.

When I was 10 my father counterfeited into Mexico one XL 250, one XL 80 and one CT 70. Mine was the 70 and I was one of the luckiest kid in the country. Counterfeiting then was not morally incorrect then. It was the only way to get decent quality products into the country. Mexico was on those days a very closed economy and counterfeiting form the US was kind of a national sport.

But this is not about the CT 70 or illegal commerce. When my dad got these bikes he brought with him a brochure form a 6-cylinder Honda bike. It was something out of this planet… completely awesome I remember thinking. I spent hours, days, looking at that brochure and the size of the magnificent engine.

So, after many years of thinking about owning one and a very close purchase some 3 years ago, finally I got this. I am one happy fellow.

I am not sure what I will do with the bike, I swing between keeping it original or doing a bolt on resto mod.

I have always been a true fan of Resto Mods and what the Japanese do specially to the Z1. Builders like Sanctuary, Bull Dock or JB Bito are magicians at respecting the looks of the beautiful 70s bikes while making them completely competitive (or better) with today’s bikes.

What I am completely sure is that the first thing to do to the monster is restore her mechanically. I’m not a living room bike kind of guy I like bikes to use them with complete confidence.

My stable? Well I guess it shows that I like all kind of bikes… If I had the time, the money and the space who knows how many bikes I would have.

This is what I have.

1971 – Triumph Daytona.
1979 – Honda CBX
1984 – Honda XR200R
1992 – Gilera CX 125
2009 – KTM 250 2ST Six Days
2009 – KTM 990 Adventure

Last, this is my little bike shop. Small and probably over equipped. Tools are my other weakness. You might not see it in the picture, but behind those doors there are all kind of tools, from Lathes and mills to tools I bought and can't remember what are they for.

Well, this is me. I am glad to have found this forum and I do appreciate all your help… I will need a lot. I have already read a lot and answered so many questions with past posts from this forum, but I also have some questions and doubts that will require lots of support. Thanks to all in advance.

Best

Ramon

WOW, great intro Ramon, and welcome to the forums. I too have a weakness for both motorcycles and tools, and we are certainly not alone here :-).

Looking forward to helping you with your projects.

Great intro, Ramon and welcome to the site.
I am a big fan of the Resto Mod look of the Japanese bikes from this era but i think they should start as projects.
Yours looks too nice to alter from stock.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

Steve, you might be right. I am still debating about it. Anyway, first I will restore it mechanically and then I will get into the looks and transformation... if any.

Best.
