Hello everyone, I am proud owner of two cbx's, one of them is '82 all original , second one not so much, I always wanted to build cafe racer out of cbx, but I would never use original bike to do that, so I started buying parts online, frame, engine, wheels... until I build the whole bike the way I wanted it

most of it is cbx, frame '82 modified to work with '79 swingarm and shocks, /81 motor with big bore, '79 carbs, front end is also '79, most of wire harness is modified. I have access to cnc machines so there is bunch of custom made parts too. I know I did not improve handling by using '79 suspension but I wanted everything on this bike to look tiny next to the engine :-)here is couple of pics from build, sorry if my english is not the best, it is not my first language.

Awesome job! I like how you hid all the electrical stuff including the battery under the seat. Really neat.
Now: The frame is missing a crossbar right under where the battery box used to be. Did you cut this out?

No, I just start it up and it ran like crap, I was not sure what it is but last night when I posted pic of the motor without the cover I noticed damn cam shafts are 180 deg off.

Yes, looks like they are. Good thing you picked up on that! Guess you know what happens if you run it that way very far.

I am still curious about that frame, Mike. You say it is an '82, but the one in the picture sure looks like a 79/80 to me. No crossbrace under the battery cover, the inner fender, the length of the frame in the rear without the tabs for the grab rail and the old shocks still attached all do not say '82.

He does state under that first frame picture:

then he states in his first post that its an 82 frame modified to take the dual shocks from the 79 frame.

It is '82 frame, cross brace was removed, all tabs removed, mounting pins for rear shocks fabricated and welded, and back of the frame was chopped and loop was welded on. If you look at the picture of the frame with wooden tail you will see all the mounting brackets for prolink susp right on the bottom of the frame
