Oil Pool Plate position

Post by pouchy750 »

I am putting together a 1979 CBX1000 engine that somebody else took apart. Up to now, everything appears quite straight forward.
But I'm not sure which way up the Oil Pool Plates go inside the inlet camshaft cover.
The U shaped ones go in the middle location & look the same, both ways up. The have rounded corners. The holes in them are equal distance from the top or bottom.
The flat ones go either side of the U shaped ones, but they are different on the long sides.
One side is similar to the U shaped ones, they have rounded corners, but the other side is completely flat. Which way up do you install these?
Also on the flat side, they have a lip along one side only, does that go towards the camshafts or away? I don't see what this lip is for.
The holes in the flat Oil Pool Plates are not central in the plate, so if installed one way or the other the oil level in the inlet camshaft gallery would be different.
Does this really matter because the Oil Pool Plates don't appear to make an oil tight seal with the top of the cylinder head?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Rounded edges go down on all of them. I install the flat ones with the flat side away from the cams, but it really doesn't matter.
