My dad (30 years old at the time) bought the first 2 CBX's sold in Colorado back in 79'. The first one broke in a couple of days so they gave him a new red one. Well, he gave it to me when I was 30 and I rode it for a couple of years and sold it
STILL KICKIN' MYSELF!!!
Anyway, I want to find it and buy it back if it is still around. My dad and I want to make it a project this winter. I have an old title and the vin says CB12016225. I am having a hard time finding a website that wants to run a 10 digit vin. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Newbie from Colorado-on the hunt for my old CBX
Welcome! That's a nice story. It would help greatly if you knew what state the bike was in, but in most states, just out of the blue, you can't get any info on VIN number registrations. You almost have to know someone that will run the number in every state, under the radar. And that's near impossible. However, I suppose that's what these title companies used to do for a pretty large fee. Our own EMS here has a large database of serial numbers and I'm sure he'll be along shortly to offer his advice. Long shot is that he has the number in his system. Chances are someone here has run across the bike somewhere, but remembering to note serial numbers is something only a scant few of us even think about. Good luck!
Dave
PS: Actually, to be historically accurate (and not to take anything away from your story), the first CBXs were sold in the summer of '78 and the serial number you seek is past the mid-point of '79 production, so it likely wasn't sold, as you recall, until '79. It would have had a build date of Fall of '78.
Also be interested to hear 'the first one broke' story!

There is a CBX Registry on another internet site - I checked there for you. (Members of the site can list the specifics of their bike for reference purposes.) Unfortunately, your VIN number is not listed. It was a long shot, but you never know. Good luck with the search.

I don't have 16225 in my list. I do have 162XX - the last two digits could not be identified - which was on a frame of a bike parted out in Colorado, in August of 2014. Doesn't mean it was yours.
There are quite a few CBX owners in Colorado, maybe someone can help you a bit further.

Re: Newbie from Colorado-on the hunt for my old CBX
Dave has it correct, once again. Serial number CB1-20 16225 was build in Japan in November of 1978. The earliest it could have possibly made it to a dealer in Colorado would probably have been December of 1978.daves79x wrote: the serial number you seek is past the mid-point of '79 production, so it likely wasn't sold, as you recall, until '79. Unfortunately, that one is not actively maintained. Many bikes in there have been sold, even parted out. Wonder if a lot of members listed them or joined the site for the sole purpose of selling their bike. That happens in a lot of forums. Here too.Z Grand wrote:There is a CBX Registry on another internet site - .

Looks kinda bleak finding this CBX. Thanks for the replays and I'm going to hunt until I find it or another one shows up!
