G'Day guys and girls From an Aussie.
Hi all, well I have jus bought my first CBX1, she is a 1979 model and is Candy Apple Red, she arrived the other day in a crate from Canada, Looking forward to bringing her back to how she looked when she left the showroom. The guy I bought her off had just installed new pistons, rings, 24 new valves, seals and gaskets so hopefully the hard work is done. She has an issue when running, the revs drop right down and stalls or sometimes the revs increase, I thought it might be the floats but any ideas are welcome. The indicators are staying on at the front both at the same time and nothing at the back so I presume its an earth. Anyway more of that later, this is just to say G'day and I am looking forward to reading all the stories and help within the site. Check out some pics of my new pride and joy. Cheers Wes.

Welcome to the site, Wes.
Sure looks like it won't need much in the way of restoration.
Just curious as to where in Canada the bike came from because finding someone for engine work can be difficult.
Erratic idling sounds like a carb clean.
Lastly, as i am nosey, what is under the car blanket?

If, by Indicators, you mean the turn signals, the front ones should be on all the time, except when flashing, and the rears only turn on for a turn signal. I hope I interpreted what you were saying correctly.wes1964 wrote:The indicators are staying on at the front both at the same time and nothing at the back so I presume its an earth.

Re: G'Day guys and girls From an Aussie.
Thanks Guys so nice to hear the support is around and look forward to chatting, now to answer some of the questions.
1. The bike was bought out of Chilliwack BC Canada, the guys name is Kevin and he buys and sells bikes, we have had a great chat over email and the phone he seems really honest, the engine was in bits when he bought it and he did the work. The bike was advertised on ebay and it was a third of the price of them here.
2. Yes both indicators/turn signals are on all the time at the front, just seamed strange as have not seen this before on our bikes in Australia, back indicators/turn signals are not working when I flick the switch so I am thinking its an earth problem (those gremlins must have jumped in on the boat as Kevin said they were working when he said good buy to her) The left hand bulb holder was very rusty and the bulb was stuck in there, had to break the bulb to get it out so I might concentrate on that area at the moment.
3. Yes it is a Ferrari 328 GTB, it is one of 53 ever made right hand drive with ABS, it is the first Ferrari to have ABS which surprisingly works fantastic, how do I know this? I did a defensive driving course in it and it was better than all the modern cars.
4. I can not find the turn signal flasher? I thought it would be under the right side cover?
Cheers Wes.

Nice car!!!!! The turn signal flasher should be under the right side cover. It is suppose to be behind the starter relay. Which is behind the battery.

Hiya! And what was said earlier about the front signal lights is correct for a canadian bike. The front signals should both be on until you signal. Once signaling the one side should go off while the other blinks. I am so used to it, not sure if the rear does the same thing but I think it does... Hrm..... Will need to check tomorrow on my bikes to see if the rears do that.

Yeah Wes, your flasher got left back on the bench in BC I guess. A generic flasher from your local auto parts guy will likely work, but one of those wires is unused. There is a rubber boot that the round stock flasher usually sits in, not a bad idea to wedge your replacement in there too.
You need the manual for the bike, do you have one?

Thanks RJ CB650 will be interested to hear if your bike does the same thing. Looks like I need to get a signal flasher as well to see if they work. I received the original book, tools and key with the bike but not a manual, where would be the best place to buy one? Does anyone know the best way to clean the carbies? I'm a bit of a novice on these things but willing to try my hand at anything. This site is great I have never been on a forum before and the feed back I am getting really helps. Cheers Guys.

You'll have a tough time finding anything here about cleaning carbs!

Great album Nils on the resto. Think I will have to save up for one of those bike stands, it would make it so much easier to work on.

Your CBX can use either a two or three terminal flasher. It came new with a two terminal one, and an unused green wire. If you use a three terminal flasher, the green wire goes to the other terminal. Most any flasher will work. If you find a round one, or a small rectangular one, it will probably fit in the rubber holder.
