New CBX owner in San Diego

Hello everyone,

I always lusted over these bikes and finally have bought one.
Brought it over from Arizona yesterday, it's been sitting for 5 years so it will need whole bunch of work.
Currently is not running but the engine does turn over nicely and without any strange noises.
I'll dismantle and clean carbs this week followed by valve adjustment and brake flush and the full bike assessment.
Any suggestions welcomed.

This weekend is going to be the carb cleaning day!
I've checked Randakk already, thanks.
Depending on how things go, I may either ship carbs to guy that specializes in cbx carb rebuild or give it local reputable shop to do it but definitely I'll try myself first as I've done it on cars!

Realistically - carb rebuild is not a weekend job. I spend an average of 12 hard hours on each job and I've done dozens and dozens of them. If you are willing to remove them 3 or 4 times, you'll eventually get them, or have them done right the first time and be done with it. If you are patient and do your homework, you can do it, if not, it will frustrate you to no end. Let us know how we can help.

I've done lots of carbs on various bikes, but never CBX carbs.
Since my project bike was not running when I bought it, I decided to have someone knowledgeable go through the carbs as a baseline. Mike Nixon is a couple of miles away from me. Probably my best investment on this CBX. With so many unknowns on a project bike and motor, the last thing I wanted was these complex carbs being another big variable in getting it running well. And on this bike, the carbs are really key to performance.

If I had started with a running bike, I might have taken a different approach.

I need to get this bike running so that I can assess the engine condition.
I will check the compression and open carb bottoms, remove jets and flush everything with carb spray.
Once I can start the bike and make sure the engine is good, I'll most likely send them to Mike Nixon.
I already have spoken to him about it.
Bike had carbs rebuilt, valves adjusted and everything tuned up last time in '09 and it had less than two thousand miles since.
I also noticed that front forks are leaking a bit, tires are stamped 24 00 so they are way too old for riding.

Yes, that's what I intend to do first.
I charged the battery today and bike does crank nicely.
Drained the oil through cheese cloth and haven't found any particles of anything, it's nice and clean.
Bough new Yuasa AGM battery today and it will get charged overnight.
I need to figure out which engine oil to buy.
Maybe the Repsol semi synthetic would be good one, I have to do a research.

Why don't you just play it safe and by some motorcycle specific Honda GN-4, in a weight suitable form your climate and within the CBX recommendations?

I would have to order that oil online but i did find valvoline motorcycle oil in wallmart.
It has JASO-MA ATI SF/SG/SL specs which is good. And ill just buy zddp additive to compliment it.
