Geert_Holland

Post by Geert_Holland »

Hi guys,

My name is Geert from Holland, i own a Honda CBX1000 from 1979 with an prolink engine.
The engine was using quit allot of oil, so me and my dad are restoring the engine from the ground up.
So i joined the site to get the information i need.

Here a couple of pictures, as you can see the wheels are original but the rear wheel has a bigger tire and
rim. I like the wide tire, but both of the wheels are useless because the are warped(?).
So im looking for CB1100 wheels and brakes.

Hi ya, Geert.
I also like the look of a slightly wider wheel. The matching red side covers look good as well.
It looks like you already have the 1100F swingarm but the 1100F wheel will only allow for a 140 tire.

It's a prolink swing arm, I need other wheels because the last owner took the wheels apart,
the bike is vibrating because of it.
Does somebody know if I can save this wheels?

Geert: It was always said that the Comstar wheels were not supposed to be taken apart. Some have done it. Not knowing how the PO put the wheel back together, I don't dare to recommend anything.

Pro-Link wheels aren't that rare or valuable. Junk them for something else. Lots of cool period choices over your way. Don't know about the swingarm being a Pro-Link. Looks like the 1100F or similar chain adjusters for a hollow swingarm - the Pro-Link arm is solid in the rear.

I wasn't planning to keep the wheels, I like the shape and color of the cb1100f wheels.
But like Steve is saying, I can only fit a 140 tire, is this enough?
Or are there other/better wheels to look fore?

I kinda like the look of the wide tire.

You being in the Netherlands, I assume you are looking for gold "boomerangs" as these were the wheels on the Euro CB1100F. An alternative is to find a rear wheel from a CB1100R. They are gold boomerangs also and match the looks of the front, but they are 3.0x18 in size as opposed to 2.75x17. They may be slightly harder to find, but I see them regularly for sale over there. Don't know how much wider than 140 you will be able to get with these, probably not much.
And then there is that really elusive 3.5x18 race issue wheel for the R, which is probably worth its weight in gold... I happen to have one, but it is not for sale, sorry :teasing-poke:

Seller says this is an 18" wheel. Then it should be a 3.00. Maybe.
