What model years' had the silver coloured alternator cover and which years' had the black?
Can the black ones be polished like the silver ones?
What are they made of?

Alternator cover
The 79 cover is magnesium. the others are aluminum. Don't knwo if any were black. the 79 can't be chromed as I recall,
