While you're in there even if it's the corrected advancer, make sure it moves freely and both the springs are on and spec out.
Wouldn't hurt to do a static timing check on it too, all you need is a 12 volt circuit tester that lights up, a spring that you can connect between the spark plug and spark plug boot is helpful too, that way you don't have to pierce the plug wire or boot.
You wouldn't happen to own a Pantera would you? I have a great story about one.

Re: Greetings From Sunny Florida
Hey Jeff,
thanks for the advice. I have a voltmeter that i'll test on the advancer and see how it reads.
No boats here yet. Have learned that the best boat is "a friend's". Used to have a Yamaha LS2000 jet boat that was a blast but a pain in saltwater.

Yep! I am back from "goofing off"...Hell, I could get used to this. Doing this once a month during the season would not be bad. Especially stopping in Newburyport on the way and have Nils treat me for lunch! What a gentleman!
Back to the VIN: It is indeed one of the earliest ones I have information on. Only six that I know of with an earlier VIN number. You bought this bike from a guy in Wisconsin, right?
I am one of the few who is not sold on the "painted sidecover" theory along with the colors out of Marysville. Something that still needs further clarification.

Hi EMS,
Correct. Got it from a guy in WI. He's a Certified Master Mechanic and did a lot of work on it from Mike Nixon's book after bringing it out of storage.
I love Maine, used to drive down from Montreal to Kennebunk Port on my V65 Sabre back in the day.

Re: Greetings From Sunny Florida
Welcome back Mike. I'm still willing to bet on the red w/flat black sidecovers from Japan and red Marysville bikes with gloss ones. This obviously assumes red ones were made here. We all know however, that by now, it's hard to prove any of this. We still need verified original owners of these '80s to come forward and prove or disprove the theories. But Mike and I are the only two that really care anyway! (not really).

Re: Greetings From Sunny Florida
Dave, I agree with you 100% on the glossy sidecovers for the Marysville bikes. I still have that number and need to make contact with the person who still works at Honda and who was there in 1979.....
