Modern shock suggestions for an 80 CBX
I am looking for a more modern looking rear shock to fit onto my 80 CBX that will have a 83 GS1100E swingarm installed. Right now I have Progressives, but they look antiquated. I am thinking of something like Ohlins but without a piggyback resevoir. The problem I am running into is that the CBX and GS swingarms use a male recepticle for the lower shock mount. I cannot seem to find anyone who produces a modern shock that would fit. I would modify the swingarm, but the mount is casted into the swingarm as opposed to being welded on. Any suggestions? Hopefully under $600 too.

Works will make whatever you want, although I was not impressed with them or what I got from them when I tried to work with them. Others seem to love them, so YMMV.

I think his problem is the lower shock mount on the GS1100E swingarm. It will not take the CBX clevis mount.

I'm reading that his problem is he needs a clevis bottom mount, the reason he's having problems finding something modern, the YSS can be made with any mounts you want.

You are right, Jeff! My bad! In that case, he shouldn't have a problem. There is a ton of modern shocks with clevis mount out there. You may have to use a separate nut, but that's it.

Re: Modern shock suggestions for an 80 CBX
The GS1100E swing arm uses a similar mount as the CBX, so I am wanting something that could be used with either swingarm. It looks like YSS can adapt any type of clevis to their shocks, so all I should need is to buy a shock designed the CBX and get a clevis set for the GS1100E. The only differnce between the two clevis' appears to be the size needed according to the YSS fitment chart. Before I make the purchase, does anyone have experience with YSS? I want to make sure I am getting a good product.

I have experience with Klaus, and he is excellent. He took on YSS as a lower cost alternative to Wilbers to give his customers more of a choice, and Mr. Wilbers got his panties all wadded up and pulled his franchise, so the story goes. I bought my FJR shocks, some springs, and have sent others to Klaus, all have had a good experience. I have no experience with YSS products though.
