Hi

Just a quick intro.... after a customer in Australia commissioned me to build him a CBX 1000 cafe racer using his engine out of a prolink, I got the bug and much to the annoyance of my wife, I had 2 x special custom CBX1000 cafe racer frames built instead of one and so started the search for a suitable cbx1000 engine. Over the last 6 months I have managed to collect about 90% of the parts to build a hybrid engine for the second engine and have put together a wish list of tuning parts to up the HP of the beast.

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to buy a set of virtually new " Z" barrels, pistons, and head , the owner said that the parts only had 200miles on them from new. The story goes that the bike (a US bike) was stolen in 1978 was brand new when stolen to be used as a get away bike in a robbery, the police caught the thieves and recovered the bike ( damaged in the ensuing chase), later the police dismantled the bike and auctioned it for parts. The guy I bought it from bought the parts at the US police auction back in the very early 80's and it has been sitting, dry stored in his workshop ever since. I also have a set of pro-link cases, crank and rods and gearbox etc

On the list

70mm pistons
H- Beam rods
hot Megacycle cam
Uprated valves spring etc
A little head porting
electronic fuel injection

best estimates 130-140hp

For those interested here is a link to my website with images of frame build http://www.taimoshancycleworks.com/cate ... afe-racer/

Cheers
John

ps that is not my engine in the frame, it is an engine I borrowed while the frame was being built :-)

Hi John and welcome to the ICOA forum. Very interesting project! I always wondered how the CBX engine would take to a cradle frame?? As there is quite a forward angle of the top end in the stock frame, did you maintain this or did you rotate the engine up?

The angle of the engine is std. The frame builder and I spent quite a lot of time tweaking the frame design to get the engine to fit right and look right with the 25deg head angle and the 7 tube headstock design. Big effort was made to build a frame that was going to allow the bike to handle. It is a really tight squeeze getting the engine in and out. I am also expecting to clip about 60-70kgs off the std CBX1000 Z dry weight. There are a few pics of the frame with engine if you click the link to my website. :-)

Welcome to the site, John.
Great story on the parts gathering.
70 kgs. weight saving with an extra 60 hp. sounds excellent.
Did i see a round/oval shape in the swingarm? What was the thought on that?
