From a New Guy - Thanks

Hi and thanks from Colorado

I've lurked around here for a while but now I have a bike that is almost recognizable as a CBX - I Joined the club (for better of worse?).

I bought a non-running 1980 model that has character but little else. One of the headers broke off while trailering it home. That 1.2 mile trip through city streets at 25 mph was rough on the old girl but the previous 10? years in the Colorado weather was worse. No pictures at present as the shock my cause tears and banishment.

Due to my past history of fixing motorbikes only to sell them at a loss, I consider myself well prepared to do this again. I will tell you that I used to rid faster than the wind, scraping handlebars on every corner and I weld better than a machine. I can fix anything.

I lie. I'm just an average guy who like to putter about with motorbikes. My riding skills are rusty and my shop is a mess. The other way around works too.

The thanks is for those of you who answer questions, who go and measure things and report, who try new things and tell us what works and what doesn't.

I suppose you're familiar with Rist Canyon Rd.? My wife "lost" her bike there one day. At the end of the ride she commented that her bike just disappeared, and she felt like she was floating along.

You are blessed with some good riding out there.

The Rist Canyon Road is a lot of fun on a bike. Last trip up it was in the truck to look at a motorbike. Unfortunately it was at night with new (old man) progressive trifocals. The distortions on the side field of view really messed with my brain - I nearly vomited and had to stop quite a few times. When the ice clears I'll go back in the day time on a bike and see what it does to me. There are a few shaded areas near the top of the hill that hold the slick stuff longer than you expect.

I've been buying a few bits and pieces for the CBX of the internet. Mostly CB1100 parts at prices I can almost live with. A VF1000 3.5 x 17 back wheel in great condition cheap (mounting it how?). But STILL haven't got into the engine. Cart before the horse is my style. Hopefully this weekend I'll get a start on it and take some pictures of it as it gets demolished. Must stop spending money.repeat. Must retrieve camera from traveling wife.
