I have my '82 engine in full tilt mode as a result of removing the carb bank for rebuild. It seemed like a good time to check the valve clearances but have run into a problem. After removing all 8 cam cover bolts and the tach drive and cover, the cam cover won't budge. I've tapped around the edges with a plastic tipped hammer and also tried a small piece of hardwood right at the cover/head seam, but no luck. I'm reluctant to tap harder and there doesn't seem to be a suitable spot to pry from.
Is there a secret for breaking loose 30 year old glue without harming anything? Or just tap harder?
Thanks,
Cam Cover Removal

Re: Cam Cover Removal
Take as big a screwdriver as will fit just into the split right under the cam end caps. There is a very defined lip there and just twist with the screwdriver and it will pop loose. Then repeat as needed on all 4 corners.

Re: Cam Cover Removal
Have you removed the (4) four cam end caps? They are each held on with (2) two Philip head screws.

Re: Cam Cover Removal
I sort of answered my own post. The cam end covers were already off and I used the lip at the top of the opening to tap a little harder using a piece of hardwood. The cover quickly popped loose. Checking valve clearances now.
Thanks again.

Re: Cam Cover Removal
I guess I assumed he did that, however, they do not hold the cam cover on.
