Galley Plates, No not for Food

I'm sure all you old timers have already done this but it's been on my list for a couple of years and I got it done today. I've got a CBX engine or two stored in my garage. Some of the time I leave the oil coolers and lines on them to keep them sealed. Some times I have removed them and that exposes the oil passages to what ever wants to get in there. Today, I made some small aluminum plates to cover up these holes. It just took a few minutes and it will be well worth the time. You can see them at

Keeping the motor sealed can be a important thing to do. here in Houston, we have all kinds of creatures that like to crawl into anything they can fit into. Before I build a motor, I always open up all the oil galleys and wash/flush/brush out everything I can, I think it is a good practice. This was proven out recently when I started work on a CBX motor. I pulled one of the galley plugs and a BIG cockroach was laying in the oil galley. That would have been a big restriction to the oil flow if left in the system.
