The CB900F and the CBX had the same bore. A lot of aftermarket companies sell the same piston rings for both bikes. Honda did not. I think the Honda original ring sets were slightly different in component contents. I always use dthe Honda sets. Don't know if they are still available, though.
If I'm not mistaken, the Honda parts suddenly got a lot cheaper - Dave had priced out pistons and rings for a total of $600 recently. Don't rule that out!

I think that the only matching piston/ring sets still available from Honda are 1st over. I'll check on the std rings only and report back. Was surprised at the price compared to most aftermarket sets being offered (current Australian and Far Eastern offerings on eBay excluded).
Looks like std Honda rings sets are still available for around $45/set. Also, to confirm Nils' comment, 1st over piston and ring sets from Honda currently list for just over $100 x6. Now this does not include wrist pins (which you should not need) or head and base gasket, or wrist pin clips. But a quality rebore job with all Honda parts for that money is certainly attractive, unless you want the performance increase from a big-bore.
Welcome to this great site, Fred.
Just a heads-up, a lot of people recently have had problems with Tas Classic Motorsports, a Google search will provide a lot of info.
