If you have your carbs separated, send me the one you need worked on and I'll get the broken part out for you. Yes, the accelerator pump squirts out all six carbs. Are you doing a complete rebuild?

I didn't want to have to complete rebuild.I have 2 cbx's 1 79 & a 80.The 80 should come around ok if I just get the right approach going into it.My 79 blued the 6 into 6 pipes I need to do them next.Do I have to take carb apart to clean accelerator nozzles.I was going to try compressed air today to open the others up.

The short version is that there are no shortcuts when working with these carbs. You will not likely get them right the first, or even second time. As others here will attest, you have to really have the desire to learn all you can about them to ever successfully do a rebuild. A shotgun approach does not work. We'll help you through it, but you need to do some homework on them and start at the beginning, step by step. For reference, it takes someone that knows what they are doing about 12 intense hours of labor to do a complete rebuild and about $200 - $300 worth of parts. Let us know how we can help you.

I agree with Dave 110%. I have wrenched on bikes since I was thirteen and that was some time ago.... :laughing-lettersrofl:

I thought the CBX would be difficult but something I am capable of....well... I got them working great but it took me three attempts and that is with Mike Nixon's book, advice from Mike himself and from both CBX world and ICOA members. There are no short cuts with these carbs you have to do it right. Check, double check and triple check fluid flow through every orifice!

It's a labor of love and it takes a LOT of time and patience to do right...those damn passages are friggin tiny and those damn accelerator nozzles are a bear to get opened up but it is possible.

I finally got the carbs for the Travesty, they are not the correct VB60's for the 79 but VB62's from an 80 model. I was really bummed when I saw them, more so when I opened them up. They were pretty corroded, zinc was corroded, innards were bubblegum and corroded...just a friggin mess.

I don't have an ultrasonic cleaner nor a soda blaster so I sent these VB62's off to Mike Nixon.

PM me and I'll tell you what it cost to get these rebuilt by a pro with a gaurantee that they will work. Worth every penny to.

Do you see how the accelerator pump circuit is supposed to work? First load the circuit with Berryman's spray, then shoot 100 psi air into the #3 body orifice to the circuit. Most of the nozzles will open. Any that don't, heat the nozzle with a propane torch and repeat the above. They will open right up.

Did you do any work on the idle/pilot circuits? A working accelerator pump won't mean a thing if ANY of those circuits are even slightly plugged. And that's a much more difficult task than clearing the accelerator pump circuit.

Again, read my previous post if your are going to have any success with your carbs.

I shot berrymans through idle circuits Today I'm going use bottle & gun brushes where possible I order Mike Nixons book also.I'm lucky on these as there's not any build up or corrosion in bowls or body and o rings for fuel don't leak .After pulling the air jet out 4 were pluged.Man these have small holes.I'm starting to get the hang of it lots of time going back over and not rushing and following your help.I need to find your post on accelerator cleaning tho.

The Mike Nixon book has clear directions and a couple photos showing the pump circuit working.
Practice makes perfect with these carbs.

I wished I could comment on this. Not sure how you could get a factory like finish on those puppies.

Mike Nixon soda blasted the VB62's I sent him and whilst they do not look factory they probably never would because of the corrosion so I am really happy with what the soda blasting did for these carbs.

Agree - soda blasting will give you the best finish possible, without harming anything. The better they look to start with, the better they will look after blasting.

I wished I had thought to take pictures of these carbs before sending them to Mike but here are the after pictures.

As you can see the carb bodies are not bright, they will never be though as these carbs were in poor condition when I got them, the zinc mounts were very corroded and marred from being hammered on...yeah some people just haven't learned the easy way to get these carbs off..

Mike:
It will prove to have been well worth the expense to have Mike do your carbs. Great stuff!
