Air cleaner chamber

Post by Kool_Biker »

I have disassembled my air cleaner chamber assembly for a long overdue 'service'.

Question:
Upon reassembly do I need to apply any sealant, anywhere, or not?
Thanks, Aris

Hi Aris,

I had mine apart last year for the 1st time and was surprised at how much dry cracked sealer came out of it. I just cleaned up all the sealing surfaces and put it back together. I will be interested to see what others have to say about this. By the way, I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your posts. Your CBX is most definately your passion.

All the best....

6Pipes thanks for your kind words ..

Come on chaps ... surely someone out there knows if sealant is required when reassembling our air cleaner chambers, or not :teasing-lurk:
Easiest thing's to use a tad of silicone .. but was anything there in the first place? Is it really necessary or are we splitting hair?

To me at least, the 12 screws holding the two parts together, 'seem' to be capable of making the box reasonably airtight.
Furthermore, the two triple rubber inlet rubbers seem to be fitting tightly enough to the box.

Thanks in advance, Aris

 I never took one apart, Aris. Do not know the need for a special sealant, but would assume it should be sealed somehow.

Aris:
I think the split in the chamber was not sealed with sealant, but the snorkles were. I'd find some black silicone sealer and work some in around the runners when reattaching.
