Mike your 'footprints' are all over this site, and the back issues of the CBXPress, and the TechTip Chronicles, going back many years. I appreciate how generous you have been with your knowledge and expertise over the years. The knowledge base that exists on this site and in the old club archives was what I really was bent on preserving when I rebuilt the website last year, and digitized the 80-odd back issues. Not many contributed more to it than you.Mike Nixon wrote:Thank you for your open mind and for your kindness.

Sorry I missed the updates to this thread - I must have been away that week. Anyway, Mike, I have tried tell guys over time that many of your tricks are proprietary and should stay that way until such time as it no longer is in your interest to do so. I'll echo Mike's and Nils' comments that we would all be less knowledgeable without your contributions over the years. We are all just duffers compared to your wealth of professional training and experience.

Mike, Dave and many other's that no longer post here have contributed greatly to the database of knowledge that's here for everyone to see and share, not to mention it all was done on a voluntary basis while holding done full time jobs and raising families.
But I think you're leaving out one very important factor to the equation, none of this info would be available and in the archives if a couple people over the years hadn't worked tirelessly to solicit, gather, edit and publish the CBXPress, sometimes three to four magazines a year. I have the complete collection of Xpresses, and when you see them in their entirety it is mind boggling that this great publication was accomplished with nothing but very hard work from dedicated volunteers.
It's important to remember the past to be able to move forward.

Yeah, that's a great point Jeff. There's not a ton of truly new ground to cover on technical topics, and the archives in print and here are really pretty substantial. I was flipping through a copy of the Tech Tip Chronicles a month ago and there were TONS of tips authored by Dave, Mike, and many others. Then I was flipping through an XPress the other day from something like 1984 and there was Dave, Tech Director, answering questions and writing up how-tos.
Truly, you guys are amazing and generous with your time and knowledge.

Dave has been a true constant of info for the club, he is a great asset and is a true example of what the spirit of volunteer means.NilsMenten wrote:Yeah, that's a great point Jeff. A short story about Dave.
Almost twenty years ago Dave came to one of the first couple rallies at St. Clairsville, he came a day early and during the late night hours some scumbag got into his tank bag and stole a stack of CBXPresss. I felt so bad after I found out I called Clint Hooper the then Dir. of the ICOA and ordered replacements for the stolen Xpresses and had them sent to his house, he called me later and was a little surprised. But that's just the way things are when you establish friends like Dave.

That's a true story Jeff relates. I still appreciate his thoughtfulness in doing that. As I remember, a couple of photo albums were taken as well, but I'd saved the negatives (remember those days?) and got replacements made. Hard to believe some of us have been at this for 25 years or more. I actually have a tremendous stack of photos and memorabilia relating to CBXs and the ICOA. Don't know any more just what all is there. Some day I'll sort it all out.
And thank you, Nils, for recognizing the need to preserve the Xpress the way you have - it has proven to be valuable to many already, and will continue to do so for a long time to come.
