Very nice, from what I've read. Is it just me, or from head-on does it look like an angry bird?

Looks like an owl with an attitude.

As much of a techno-marvel as this bike may be, it won't stand the test of time like a CBX. 8)

Either garage is too small or we have too many bikes. Or Momma's car needs to go outside.

I want to love it. There are three propeller bikes in my garage as it is. But it's too plastic and too RT for me. With the engine hidden away it's got no particular presence and it's just another supersport tourer.

OTOH I might feel differently if I rode one, and my local dealer (Max BMW) is only too happy to oblige.

I test rode a GTL. I am definitely going to get one. It is just a matter of time. I will have to replace my current long distance tourer (and that is an RT, Nils  ) and the K16GT is the only real alternative for me. From what I read in the latest comparo tests, the price is the only thing that speaks against it.

Oh that came out wrong. It's a fine bike, don't get me wrong, everyone I know that has one loves it. My 1100 is well shrouded too, although the engine is not. Somehow it's just too much plastic for me on the RT and 1600, emphasis on "for me".

That's fine, Nils, I was not offended 8) I was just trying to say, if you come from the "plastic RT" it is easier to accept the design of the K16. And if you want to ride a bike 500 miles+ a day through all kinds of weather, you appreciate a little more plastic. :D :D Although I am not partuclarly fond of the "floating panel" designs they all have today.

I've never been a big BMW fan . . . . but if I awoke one morning to find one of those sitting on my front porch, it wouldn't be for sale the next day

No questioning the engineering, the quality or the reputation and (for a BMW) this one is quite nice looking too . . . . only a matter of time before someone sticks an atrocious looking trunk on the back though - Standard on the GTL? They could have done something better with the mirrors and do we really need that antenna sticking up there?? Couldn't that have been incorporated as a fine wire built into the windscreen?? Granted, those are tiny 'flaws' in the overall scheme of things. Next to a CBX, it's got the best sounding engine I've ever heard. The technology in the headlight sounds really great too

It would be nice to see more of the engine, but I don't see how you could do that and have the bike look as good as it does. Frankly, I'm kinda surprised at the price - I figured it would be more than it is, all things considered

Yes, if I was younger and still had 15 or 20 years left to ride, I'd probably own one too

Yes, topcase is standard on the GTL and can be had as an optional add-on for the GT for a measly $1,300.- :sad-roulette:
Antenna is not an issue, because I would never buy a bike with radio or CB on it.

My experience after 10 years of riding BMW touring bikes: There is absolutely no better touring bike, if you want to still ride a motorcycle and go beyond the feeling of sitting on an E-Z Boy. And, personally, I would welcome the power of the K16

Owning one is a pipe dream so with that in mind i will wait for Six Center Motoren to stuff one of those engines into a S1000RR and start dreaming again.

It could probably be done, but it would require some ingenuity. The RR has a conventional tranny with a chain and the K16 has a shaft drive. We probably will see a 3 cylinder version of the RR before that...

No argument from me . . . . but at about 5X the price I paid for my ST1100, I'd have to REALLY plan to use it before I could justify the expenditure

After my last trip, I'm really beginning to appreciate the ST - One up, it's fun to ride. It wasn't my favorite when I bought it a couple years ago . . . . not a great two up tourer

Unfortunately, the ST1100 is no longer being made and even the ST1300 never had a 2011 model. If the VFR1200 can take that spot remains to be seen.
But as far as cost is concerned, we need to compare apples and apples. New bike price vs new bike price. If you look at a used bike, you will always find better deals.

Saw (and heard) a K16GTL at the local Wendy's yesterday - Yes, I *would* own one of those! :-)

It is incomprehensible to me that that ugly trunk sells for $1300 though - To me, it really ruins the lines of an otherwise great looking bike . . . . if the one that shows up on my doorstep has one of those, it'll be FREE to whoever wants it!!

What about the requirement for 95 octane? Not easy to find that everywhere here ( or on the road).
