Yes, it's me again.
I got the new jets put on the carbs for my '79 and proceeded with the re-install on the bike.
Got the carbs mounted to the engine, hooked up the cables at both ends and gave the throttle a twist to test the action.
To my dismay, the throttle sticks at full open and will absolutely not return on it's own without reversing the grip. After about an hour of poking at the cables, I took the carbs off again. On the bench, they won't return either. It's not immediately evident to me where they are getting hung up. I suppose if I had more experience with them, I'd have some idea of where to look for a bad spring or tube or bolt or widget but, my naivete has got me at my wits end and, I'm just about ready to take these misbehavers to a professional and hand over what's left of my paycheck.
If anyone has a clue or advise or would just like to sit and pat my hand and tell me it's gonna be alright, I'd really appreciate it.

It is hard to say from afar what the cause may be, but it is most likely the linkage/shafts. Also, check whether the butterflies dig into the carb throats and stick there. When the throttle sticks open, tap slightly against the butterflies to see if they release.

I always look for the easy solution first so forgive me if this sounds goofy.
Could it be the throttle cables are not hooked up properly?
You said you mounted the carbs and then hooked up the cables at both ends. That is VERY difficult to do. The easiest[least difficult] method is to attach the cables to the carbs, mount them on the engine and then attach the cable at the bars.
I understand that the same problem should not occur on the bench but if the cables are still attached make sure they are properly connected and routed.

Re: End of my (knowledge) rope.
I can probably help you if we could talk. Problem is I am on the road at the North Carolina rally and won't be home until Tues eve. I would need to ask you several questions about the carbs and I thibk we could figure it out.
