Fluid Leak: replacement hose?

Howdy. I appear to have sprung a leak at the left front caliper hose, at the lower crimp. Do I have to find someone to fabricate me a line, or are originals or replacements available anywhere? I have an '82.

John, in a situation like this you need to take a look at all the brake hoses on the bike and make a decission on whether to just replace them all at once, three or so CBX vendors sell aftermarket hose kits.



You could find a used replacement from somebody here for $5.00 and have it start to leak a year from now or buy a new single replacement hose and have the system be only particially rebuilt.

If I have a good one laying around you can have it for the postage.

Jeff,

That's a might righteous offer. I'd definitely take you up on it if you find one. As you can see, the bike's in exceptional condition; it's always been garaged and covered, and none of the rubber looks anything but practically new, even though it's 22 years old. It still has the break-in warning on the speedo!

Plus, all the brake fluid was flushed and replaced within the last year.

I know it's running a risk, but given that I only ride it once or so a month, I'll take the risk. If another one goes, that'll be my cue to replace 'em all.

I'm also in the middle of a body-off restoration on my '72 Buick, so I'm not looking for more work!

BTW, are the names you gave me the vendors' user names on the board?

I don't know if you 're trying to maintain an origional appearance but if you're not too concerned I would recommend getting stainless steel braided lines to replace everything front and back. Sensitivity is greatly enchanced and you'll feel very secure.

John, I have a hose you can have, no cracks all there just clean it up.

I don't know if you 're trying to maintain an origional appearance but if you're not too concerned I would recommend getting stainless steel braided lines to replace everything front and back. Sensitivity is greatly enchanced and you'll feel very secure.

If you use the Goodridge lines, where you cut and assemble the lines your self, you can slip a piece of fuel line over the braided line, then use heat shrink to finish the end near the banjo. You have to look very closely to tell from original, but you have much improved braking. Couple that w/ a set of modern pads and you get two fingered stops.

Brian Weis di a set w/ the fuel line trick and it looked much better than my st w/ heat shrink used full length. His are flawless.
