Converting Run/turn signals to Turn signals

Post by tanukusiva »

Hi All,

I am in the process of converting my 1981 CBX into a naked bike, I say this as a process because what seems to be a simple task turned out to be a major process. I didnot want to mess around with the part of the wiring harness that was inside the faring so, I thought I would make my own, buy connectors, attach headlamp. Any ways in the process I bought some turnsignals that were 2 wire application but the CBX fronts were 3 wire. I tried all combinations with out any success. I would really appreciate, If anyone can enlighten me about how to complete the circuit to make those 2 wire turn signals work.

Thanks
Siva

Siva, welcome to the site. If you don't post pictures of your project it didn't happen :-).

J.R. Luksik is your man, having done that conversion twice I believe, and also being an expert in all things moto-electrical. His handle here is CBX-tras. He may or may not catch your post, I'd ping him directly.

Try to find the Light Blue (right) and Orange (left) wires in your main harness and connect the signals to those.

I've been asked to post my pics of my "X" earlier but it is not pretty yet. I think with this last modfication it will be perfect.

I've tried that combination also. I've located LB/W and O/W being the running lights and LB and O being the signal lights, However when i turn on the switch the signal stays "ON" but doesn't blink. I am guessing that the circuit should complete for the flasher to activate because when i connect LB and O together the flasher activates with the turn switch.

If the signals come on but don't blink, you may have a bad flasher. Or your battery may be low - some flashers will barely work @12 volts. You seem to have them connected correctly, just make sure both front and rear on both sides are all connected when you are trying them.

Yes. If the rear is not connected or has a bad bulb, the front may not blink.
