Carb compatibility?

Post by Goss »

I currently have 3 sets of carbs, one on my Martin and 2 that I am rebuilding, the Moto Martin has VB63A's as standard as the motor is a 1980, the other sets are something like VB65 and VB67 I think.

My question is how are these carbs compatible with the different motors, I know that the rubber carb to cylinder head mounts differ as the later ones are cranked to level up the carbs. I have a broken float post on my VB63 and one of the later sets of carbs that I am working on is near mint internally, less than 2,000 miles on them and would like to upgrade.

Does anyone have a list of the carb models including european models and the technical differences between them?

Regards

Any version of CBX carbs will work on any year CBX just fine. Here in the US, we had 3 versions: VB60 -'79, VB62-'80, and VB64-'81-'82. I believe the VB63s you have are original Euro-spec '81-'82 carbs. I've cleaned a set of those and could find no difference between them and our VB64s. Our later VB64 carbs have screw-in pilot jets also.

Anyway, whatever minor differences there are in the Euro-spec carbs of different years should not be a problem and I'd bolt on whatever set you think is the nicest, of course with whatever jetting changes you may need to make for altered intake/exhaust combo you have.

Have not heard of VB65 or VB67 carbs for CBX. If they are not in a bank of six, but individual carbs, they may be for a different Honda model.

Thanks for the info Dave, my sets are VB61A, VB63A and VB65A so they must all be European. The 65A's are a beautiful set so I may jet them to 110's and see how they perform. I am having problems with Ethanol eating my fibreglass fuel tank at the moment so really need to get this fixed before going out on the bike.

EMS, I guessed my numbers incorrectly, they are all banks of 6, looks like odd numbers for Europe and even for USA?

Thanks and regards.

Following the numbering system I am familiar with, VB60A are 79 U.S. carbs, VB61A are Euro '79 carbs. VB62A are U.S. 80 Carbs, VB63A would be Euro 80 or CBX- "A" carbs.
While VB64A-A are U.S. 1981 and VB64A-B are U.S. 1982, a VB65 could be a set of Euro Prolink CBX-B and C carbs. But I have never seen a set, nor have I seen a VB67. What would be a VB66?
