Post by Mike Cecchini »

Pt. # 16211422000

I better replace my boots even though they look decent......now that the carbs are off. A few yrs down the road I know I'll be kicking myself for not doing it now.

I'd like to call one of the ICOA's supporting supplers and give them my business.......... any suggestions ?

Thanks.

The eBay ones are evidently not the factory quality or fit. I've read a couple of places that they do not fit properly . . . . the carbs are so loose that if you aren't using an airbox, they can literally fall off even with the stock clamps tightened all the way. Who knows how long they would hold up - A good used (but still supple) 30 year old factory set would probably be a better use of your $80 . . . . Louis could probably hook you up

Hopefully the Randaak ones are from a different manufacturer and are a better fit - I would certainly buy from him because he would make it right for you if there was any problem . . . . not as likely from an eBay vendor

I used Randakks and they work great. They do not leak and they retain their flexibility as I have had my carbs on and off several times.

And since I don't have an airbox on my 80 rider (triple K&N's) ....... a good fit is critical to support the carbs properly.

Aftermarket's might work well if airbox is used.......but I'm not going to chance it.....gotta go with oem's

Thank you very much for your wise experienced comments.

Re: 79/80 Rubber Intake Boots ? Randakks

Update....... checking Randal Washinton's Randakks site (http://www.randakks.com ) I see he has improved material versions of CBX intake boots.

And while I trust Honda's quality, Randall has really stepped-up with so many improvement parts for our carbs like Viton "O" rings and such ..... I trust his parts more.....not to mention Randakks boots are $50 less (set) than Honda. 8)
