Possible new replacement battery??

Post by Don »

I just bought a new sealed AGM 12 volt battery for another project (a solar powered florescent light at the end of my driveway) from Amazon and when it arrived I thought it looked just like a CBX battery

It's an Adventure Power UTX24HL and I paid $67.80 with free shipping. It's about 6 1/2 inches tall, 3 1/2 inches wide and 8 1/8thn inces long . . . . anybody know for sure if this will fit in the battery box? . . . . or do I need to take off the seat and try it in the bike?

It's made in China and weighs about 15 pounds - Seems like a heck of a price for a sealed AGM CBX battery

Don: The GL1100 battery that I run in my CBXes measures 6 -3/8 tall, 3-9/16 wide and 8-1/8 long. The most critical dimension is the height. If it is really 6-1/2, it may be tight.

The *actual* height measurement is closer to 6 3/8ths than it is to 6 1/2 so I'm pretty sure this one would fit

The factory dimensions are 8.07 x 3.39 x 6.38" - It's 21 AH and 300CCA and weighs 14.3 pounds

My Yuasa YTX20HL-BS is 6.875" x 3.4375" x 6.125" and fits perfect with the spacer. It kicks butt with 310 CCAs.

There must be more than one of those

Amazon sells a YTX20HL-BS for $100 . . . . but they say it's 9 by 9.5 by 4 inches - That *would not* fit

http://www.amazon.com/YTX20HL-BS-PW-Per ... B000WK2DB2

I can see why it's got 310CCA's though - It's HUGE, it's expensive and it weighs 16.5 pounds

I think Amazon just got wrong dimensions: Unless that's for the diesel CBX!

I was looking at: http://www.yuasabatteries.com/battery.p ... 4&vID=7492

Dimensions: 8.125" x 3.4375" x 6.375"
C.C.A.: 350
14.4 Pounds

I've seen it on sale for around $100. Not too bad for AGM. I've started the process of re-building my wiring harness for my '81, so I'm a ways-off from needing a battery.

Hey, thanks for the inadvertent education, folks. I had to look up AGM. :)

Really good info, and I'm especially wowed by the low self-discharge rate. I'll be looking for one of these when my die-hard finally dies.

I got mine for $37.00, its a sealed and came charged.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001G8FY38

This battery is 12V, 22 Amps. Dimensions L x W x H (in.): 7 1/8 x 3 x 6 9/16
I had to get a 22 amp hrs because my CBX takes time to start. Now that i changed the battery i am not worried about draining it.
