Intake Boot Clamp Arrangement Diagram ?
Hey guys....... I would have bet the farm on seeing a diagram in the factory service manual that showed the unique arrangement of the carb intake boots clamps......but I'll be damned if I can find it now.
Anyone out there ever seen this diagram in the service manual........ or am I crazy ?
Thanks............ Mike

Re: Intake Boot Clamp Arrangement Diagram ?
Screw heads point outward. To the left on cylinders 1 to 3, to the right on cylinders 4-6. Cylinders 1, 2 and 5,6 screws sit on top for both clamps, cylinders 3 and 4 screws sit on the bottom. That's how I remember it and have done it for the last 30 years. may not be according to the book , but according to my experience.

Re: Intake Boot Clamp Arrangement Diagram ?
Here's what I've put together with the CBX Tech Articles and sitting at the bike looking how screw
heads must be orriented so a 8" #2 phillips head screw driver can reach each screw head.
CBX Carb Intake Rubber Boots and Airbox Securing Bands w Head Orientation.
T = Top R = Head Facing Right
B = Bottom L = Head Facing Left
Cyl # 1 2 3 4 5 6
@Cyl Head BL TL BL BR TR BR
@Carb BL BL TL TR TR BR
@Air Box TL TL TL TR TR TR
Thanks Ron.

Re: Intake Boot Clamp Arrangement Diagram ?
Couldn't they all be on either the top or bottom side and secure them from inner most to outer?

I have no idea what might cause that. Everything is working normally and I have no other reports of problems or weirdness.Mike Cecchini wrote:I got it.........thanks Ron.oilheadron wrote:Done. Still don't see it??????????????? I sent you a direct email also.

Re: Intake Boot Clamp Arrangement Diagram ?
I wish it was so......but If you sit down and take a good look at your X (if it's all original) ....... there's things in the way that won't allow all of the screws lined up in this arrangement.SPLINTER wrote:Couldn't they all be on either the top or bottom side and secure them from inner most to outer?

Re: Intake Boot Clamp Arrangement Diagram ?
Splinter: The original way the '79CBXes came from the factory was all clamp screws on the top, heads pointing outward, except for the cylinder head side clamp on 3 and 4, for which the bolt was on the bottom. There is the casting of the engine hanger bolt on the cylinder head that will not allow you access to the screw head on top for these two clamps. From 1980 on, Honda changed the cylinder 1 and 6 clamps for both cylinder head and carb side to screw on bottom. Probably, to make it a little easier to reach the screws on 2 and 5 and to ease access of the vacuum connections for carb sync. But they are not really in the way and the top location will work also.SPLINTER wrote:Couldn't they all be on either the top or bottom side and secure them from inner most to outer?
Unless you are a stickler for "factory original" , you install the clamps the way it will work for you and however you will be able to get a screwdriver to them. Just on 3 and 4, on the head side, you may not have a choice.

Mike:
I think you are correct except for one thing - from '80-on Honda put the #2 carb side clamp in the 9 o'clock position for access and non-interference with the vacuum fuel valve line.
