Carb Synchronization

Post by SanDogDewey »

I was synching my carbs today and could not get my adjusting tool on to the adjusting nut and screw for #2. I'm using the Motion Pro tool with the integrated 8 mm socket and screwdriver. Anyone else have this problem? Worked just fine on all the other adjustments, except #6 was a little squirrely, but I got at it from behind the frame.

Does the vacuum valve need to be moved in order to gain access to the adjustment nut and screw for #2? I've never seen this mentioned before.

You have the vacuum hose routed wrong. It needs to go on top of the valve and loops over #2 carb top (and clamps into a special clamp bolted to the left side #2 top screw), then down to the brass nozzle on #3. That will allow good access to the sync screw.

That looks like it would free up some room. I believe my vacuum hose has been shortened over the years, because it barely reaches with its direct route. I'll pick up some hose and see if that gives me the room I need.

Careful Bob, my bike was running sweet. Started right up every time. Idled beautifully. Runs like a raped ape. But I did have a little knock that was bothering me and my Carbtune arrived in the mail this week. Hooked up the Carbtune and got the carbs spot on level. The knock disappeared and the idled was smoother than I thought it could ever get. Today she didn't want to start...ugh. :(

Got homework to do, so I'll see if I can investigate it tonight.
