Starter help . . . . Please

So in my rebuild thread you guys know I got the bike up and running - Im having trouble with the starter though.

Im getting a signal to the starter solinoid when I push the starter button, but no start. So I replaced the solinoid,
pushed the button and no start ? The clutch switch tests good - bikes in nuetral, nuetral lite is on

I've started it many times over with my automotive remote starter button, so the starter is fine . . . . . dont know

Pull the clutch in and try again, and I think if that works it indicates a bad diode in the headlight housing. Someone more clueful will chime in more definitively in at moment I'm sure. Are you confident in the switch circuit? Alternately, take your biggest (insulated) screwdriver and MOMENTARILY bridge the big terminals on the solenoid. That should trigger the starter too, and tell you that at the least the circuit to the starter is good.

My 81 starter button is slow to release.

What's safe to use if anything to spray the push button on the right grip holder? Or do I need to take it apart.

The circuit operates ok, but does not release quick and clean so the starter continues to operate momentarily.

Personally I'd take it apart George. It's stone simple in there, you can get it squeaky clean and stretch the spring out a tad till it feels just right. If you elect to try a spray cleaner, I get aerosol cans of 'spray contact cleaner' from Radio Shack, which is safe for plastic. It cleans and lubricates. I'd spray it in, keep a paper towel underneath, then blast compressed air around the sides of the (depressed) button to see if you can dislodge whatever crud is fouling the action. I wouldn't spray any other type of cleaner or solvent in there personally.

It was the diode in the headlite bucket ~ I traced the green wire with the red tracer ! I had no idea till Nils said something in his post. Now I'm gonna try the on the bike slow jet cleaning I read in another post and see if that works. I got the valve cover sealed up so I'm getting closer. (it does run perfect with the choke on, just pops out the exhaust on decel)

I'll keep after it and let you guys know !

You don't wanna run it for more than a minute or so with the choke on though

The most beautiful 'noise' a well tuned CBX makes is that transistion from slight power to neutral to slight decel - You don't hear it all *that* well with stock pipes but with the Kerkers it will make beautiful music when you feather the throttle as you're riding it. With my Pipemasters, you can actually hear each individual cylinder 'burble' on very, very slight decel - You can turn it on and off at will with very slight tweaks of the throttle

When the carbs are well tuned, all 6 of them begin burbling at the exact same time . . . . if they're not perfectly matched, you can almost get 3 or 4 or 5 cyclinders to sing individually at will with precise tweaks of the throttle. When everything is perfect though, you're gonna LOVE the music you can play with the pipes on slight decel!!

There is no other bike I'm aware of remotely as pleasing to listen to . . . . a pair of 750's running side by side in the same gear is close - A pair of CBX's side by side is heaven :) I rode with another Pipemasters equipped CBX at Marlinton one year and the music was so intoxicating it frequently took your mind off where you were riding and what you were doing

If your bike with it's pipes turns out to be a great 'music maker' it will make it lots harder to let go of if the time ever comes to sell it . . . . and you'll ride it lots more while you own it, that's for sure - I find it hard to go a week without going for a ride . . . . even if it's just 5 or 10 miles, it's enough to give me my weekly 'fix'
