Oil pump chain

Post by oilheadron »

Mine on the '79 seems to be loose, but when I did a search I saw a 2003 post referring to earlier posts that this may be normal. How loose (or how long) is normal??? TIA.

Mine's a pretty low mileage '79 and it's 'sloppy loose' . . . . maybe nearly half a chain link too long - I think that's normal

PM Dave McMunn about your carb question

Mine was the same. I had looked at it when I did my clutch.

It is designed this way. There is no way to tighten it (no tensioner), and if it were tight, it would be more likely to wear the oil pump and the clutch shaft bushing due to side-loading.
