Spark Unit

Post by pantera33 »

I know this is ridiculous to ask, but surely someone, somewhere, has a good spark unit for a '79. I am sure the one I have has gone belly up as black tar is leaking out of it and I have no spark to #5 and damned little to #2 if any. Easy to tell when one monitors cylinder temperature as to which ones work and which ones don't. Pulled the plug on #5 and it had never fired since being replaced. Not the coil!

Don't know if the 81-82 units work on the earlier models or not either. Haven't tried Louis yet as he was on vacation.

Spark unit

If you didn't miss type it's NOT the spark unit.1&6 would not fire at all if it was the spark unit.Any Honda spark unit with the same color wires will work.My 80 has a spark unit from an old Goldwing spliced in for the last 5 years and works fine. The black tar oozing is normal.

Sorry,James S emailed me and made me look at the original post again.I was seeing #2 #6 not #5.Yes 1&6 2&5 3&4 are the firing of the spark unit.So if 2&5 aren't firing it is THAT spark unit.As i said the unit from any Honda with the wire colors the same can be spliced in or the 81-82 seperate ones can be used.I have an 80-82 GW unit spliced into 1&6 that has worked fine for 5 years. Thanks James for making me double check my post.Hope this clears things up.
