Can I shorten the centerstand on my Prolink?

Would that fix the problem? No matter which tire I use, an 80 or a 90 series, its getting harder to get it up on the centerstand to the point of me straining my back and neck to pull it back and up onto the stand. Is there some way to fix this? Its MUCH easier on my 79, not a problem at all but on the 82, especially when loaded is a real bear to do. HELP!!!!!

Terry, Do you still have the original shock? Is the one you have an air shock? If the air pressure in the rear shock on my 81 is not right, I have the same problem. I adjust it and getting it on the center stand is really easy. Of course the forks should be "pumped up" too.

No I have a Progressive Suspension shock, newly rebuilt (and) I run an 80 series tire which doesn't seem any worse than the 90 series I used to run. Still.....

You're getting old, Terry. Face it living in the norcal bay area with all them limp-wristed Mayor's could be rubbing off. I have absolutely no trouble at all putting my 82 on it's center stand. Especially since I started an exercize regiment where I take one day a year and spend it working out, in the garage, shortening my centerstand, 5/8". So I guess I need to do a day of exercize this year with my spare, stock stand like I did last year? Works really good, I think there's a thread here somewhere.

Not really Steve, its mostly about side stands. The pics of his center stand are so blurry and incomplete there is no finished stand to look at...yet....

in vertical distance there's probably 1/2" difference. Here's a pic with stock rear shock, 10lbs air in forks, and real tall and fat tires (for a CBX) Kenda 130/90-18 and 110/90-19. You can barely see the welds because they're real close to the foot of the stand

and here you can see the rear tire on level ground is around 1/4" off the ground

and here you can see the distance from the spring to the bottom of the stand

Sheesh what a disparity! My 82 measures about 2 & 1/2" from the floor to the tire and the 79 is lucky if its an inch. Don't suppose you thought of 'before' measurements? You cut 5/8" out and lowered the stock shock Prolink tire to 1/4"? Wonder what your before measurement was and how that might compare with my ProSus shock Prolink nearly 3" off the ground? How much to cut out of mine? Or is there another remedy?

Mine was 1 3/4" with fairly worn tires before I cut the stand but a lot depends on your tires and rear shock. The stock rear shock is longer then the Progressive. I've had both. And a Works rear shock also. It was shorter then stock. If I don't ride too much this weekend I'll cut 1/4 to 3/8" out of my stock stand and mail it to someone who can evaluate it.

Great! I don't have a welder...but don't miss any riding days. Now, how to remove the center stand while on the cente...jack it up like I do when changing the front wheel only farther back? This old thing should have spools like modern bikes!
