I'm wondering what is the best fork oil for this fairly 'lightweight' bike and rider?

cheers

long ago now.....when my 80 was new i tried a lot of combinations but found an equal mix of 5wt and 10wt synthetic yielding 7.5 wt is a good place to start

for those of us weight challenged (fat)...when i tried higher weighs the results were a bone jarring ride up front and control/tracking at speed over bumps decreased

how right you are..........it sure wasnt any challenge putting it on. i was 212 in in high school...you know back in the 1850s like era of little house in prairie.....32 inch waist/48 inch chest......... now latter two measurements are reversed

if only....

if only i could control my eating

if only my gene pool back to cave days in italy were the thin guys and gals

if only i weighed 100 pounds less my cbx wouldnt need motor work to help me keep up since this would equal 20 hp all by itself

if only i walked one step each day for each computer stroke i do during the same time

if only.......................

Fork Oil

Post by DynoDan »

Regarding the fork-oil question, I think you will have good results using ATF... Dexron III or Mercon... Honda recommends using it, it's inexpensive, has seal swelling agents for fork seal protection.

Good Luck

Has anyone tried higher weight fork oils in an '82? One of the guys at my local shop who used to own an '82 recommended a 15wt oil. He also added something called a "regulator (?)", I believe, that went into the bottom of the fork leg to adjust damping. He seemed happy with the results and said I could probably keep less air in the forks, reduce bottoming, and avoid some binding that higher air pressure could create. Anyway, without the "regulator", I was just wondering what type of ride the 15wt might give? I prefer a sport-touring ride on this bike with a little more emphasis on the sport.

I just put 15wt in my 82 and it seems just fine to this heavy rider. It is tough to compare since I also put in Progressive springs, but 15wt was the recommendation from Progressive. I like the setup just fine.

I run 20w in both the 79 and 82, both with pro springs. I love the way it handles.

Handling

Post by gdefran82 »

I just realized they were emulators, not regulators. Any pros and cons concerning the Progressive springs vs stock?
