Just an FYI that Oregon Motorcycle Parts at http://www.oregonmotorcycleparts.com/Products.html has a combo R/R unit (P/N VRR4-CBX) for the X listed for $99.50. The units are guaranteed for life to never fail. The owner/designer deploys an interesting design, using generous spacing on the mounting plate and additional cooling fins. As noted by the owner; "We feel that much of the problem with OEM regulator/rectifier units is that they are made too small and the heat from the rectifier is dumped into the voltage regulator and slowly cooking it. Leaving an airspace between the rectifier and voltage regulator is part of our design philosophy."
Just thought I'd share in case anyone is unaware of this option to expensive OEM parts.
