Squeeking from gauges

Post by allilump »

I hear this sqeeking sound from the speedo or tach (I think) when I ride my 79. Any common problems from these gauges that are addressable?

Ensuring the cables are well-oiled, especially at the top end(s) would, of course, be my first step.

squeaking gauges

allilump,

Sounds like the gauges could benefit from a strategically-placed drop of light oil where the cable goes in.............. 8)

I had the same problem with the tach on my '82 last fall. Oiling the cable didn't help. I gave a shot of oil to the inside of the tach where the cable threads to it, rode down the street and the noise went away within 1/4 mile & hasn't come back.
