Two types of exhaust gaskets: Which one is best?
I see the original copper (bronze) tubular ring gaskets (the original Honda stuff) for sale, and I see a different type of gasket that is flat on two sides, sometimes called "crushable". Does one work better than the other? What is the crushable gasket made of? Thanks guys (and gals).

Kawasaki makes copper gaskets that also fit the CBX ...much better. I am sure someone knows the specifics since I dont remember (been a while since I replaced mine). If no one replies ....pm me or post a reply to here and I will contact some club members that know and then get back to you

The original Honda gasket is not a copper gasket. It is the asbestos wound version and I think no longer available, for obvious reasons. There are many alternatives vailable, one of them being the Kawasaki ones. I am with Larry. The copper gaskets can be re-used. Definitley an argument, because it seems you have to tilt the engine for every other little job you want to do

THANKS for the replies, but let me clarify...
I will not re-use ANY gasket--EVER. That being the case, the question is this: Which exhaust gasket is BETTER? Which lasts longer (if one does not need to drop the exhaust)? Which fuctions better? Which is easier to use? Which causes the least trouble? Any thoughts? THANKS!

Which lasts longer (if one does not need to drop the exhaust)?
Which fuctions better?
Which is easier to use?
Which causes the least trouble?
Which exhaust gasket is BETTER.
Solid copper is the answer to all the above. If you don't want to re use, buy another set.....
Larry...on your side on this. I found the CBX gaskets deteriote over time and dont work that well on reinstalls sometimes.
The Kawa gaskets that fit by chance were not solid copper but have a softer core surrounded by copper all aound so they also crush down nice. Hope I am not dreaming all this.........been 20 years since I saw one or thought about it.
I will find out what Kawa model they fit and get back

My own opinion is the asbestos seals a little better, not that there's any problem with the copper. Asbestos also sticks to things better and can be a little more difficult to remove. I use whatever is laying around and re-use them indefinitely. Never had a problem. After installing an exhaust I'll warm up the engine to operating temp and tighten up the collars. Some people use grease to hold the gaskets in place when installing, I squeeze them into a slightly oval shape and tell them to STAY in a command voice. Never had one fall out during installation.
