1981/82 Rear Wheel Hub O-Ring (P/N: 91258-438-711)?

Post by davejespy »

I have been unable to find a replacement o-ring for my 1982 CBX rear wheel hub. It's Honda part number 91258-438-711 (66 X 3.6) and it's no longer available. What's odd is I haven't been able to find an equivalent replacement. There are plenty of 66 X 3.0 o-rings out there but not a 66 x 3.6. Even more odd, I have been unable to find any reference to, or any discussion of, this particular part on this board. Maybe I am just not searching correctly but I can't be the only one ever needing this particular o-ring (or equivalent).

Related to this question, does a list of truly unobtainable CBX parts exist?

Thanks, Dave

You are correct - the part is NLA from Honda anywhere, including CMSNL. I thought all years would be the same number, but the Pro-Link number is different and the o-ring is indeed 1mm larger in diameter. First I have ever run into this. Is your o-ring missing/broken? If not, just re-use it. Otherwise, start shopping around and find the closest thing. It's not as critical as many applications would be.

Appreciate the feedback. The o-ring on my CBX is definitely harder and less pliable due to age. I carefully removed it so I could clean the hub but I was afraid it was going to break (it did not break - but I haven't put it back yet). The o-ring listed in the link CBX-tras provided is closer than anything else I've been able to find so I will order them and see how it fits. I agree it's not a super critical part/fit but I am trying to do everything to factory original specifications as I go through the bike. This is the first part I haven't been able to find an exact replacement for.

Thanks again. I can't tell you how valuable and information rich this forum is - which is why I was surprised this particular part had not been previously mentioned!
