New member and some questions

Post by Darrell »

Hello!
I've been a member for a while and using the site with many thanks! I have a '79 and '80 CBX both in need of repair.

While fishing for a nut that I dropped down the cam chain tunnel with a long magnet, this metal bar came out on the end of my magnet. It's 35mm long and 6mm in diameter. I can't find it anywhere in the parts listing and wonder where it came from, or was it simply sitting in the bottom of the crankcase waiting to be fished out?

Yes indeed, that's what it is. If it was loose, then it was not put in the correct place. It cannot just pop out of place. You will find that your front cam chain guide is likely trashed as well. The head has to come off, at a minimum.

Great! Many thanks. Both the head and cylinders are off. The cam chain guide looks OK but the top spring loaded cam chain guide is cracked. Hopefully this part is still available

Those parts Have been NLA from Honda for a long time. Various vendors sell reconditioned ones.
