Progressive shock for Prolink

Post by Dynamohum »

#420 which appears on Tim’s website or should I order a #465 which was recommended here. What’s the difference?

I found a mechanic who can R&R the shock for me so I want to order one ASAP but which? I didn’t know they made two versions.

Tim’s is asking under $500 for the series 420 and Progressive is asking over $700 for their series 465. Odd, the Progressive website shows only fork oil and some tools available for ProLinks, not a rear shock.

Don't see the 420 series anywhere. I wonder if it is an old part #?
Never used this vendor but an excellent price for the 465 including the remote adjuster.

Thanks but according to eBay’s ‘does it fit’ selection, it doesn’t. And it’s still nearly $700! Gaaaahhhhh  Maybe I’ll call Bill and Progressive.

Search for 465-1115. In 2 minutes I saw two vendors with that Progressive shock for the 81-82 CBX in stock. Don’t let the Canadian dollars scare you, the exchange rate is favorable for the US right now. Good luck!

And you might want to see if Bob Franzke has a connection. He's been very good to the CBX community.

Thanks. A link would’ve been nice. As I read, it looks like the consensus is that it’s 13.5” in length. Right? I found this but it’s shorter but with the same 465-1115 Progressive part number.

So, is it 13.5”?

I spoke with Bill at Tim’s and that 420 series number for a monoshock is an old number and he doesn’t sell them anymore. Just hasn’t updated the website. Ikon emailed me that they too no longer make a monoshock for the Honda.

The -1115 is the model you want. If you find it for $700 usd with remote preload adjust, I'd say it's a fair price these days. Easy bolt-on. While doing it, all the linkage should be disassembled and the bushings greased and seals replaced. (Unless someone has done that in the past 40 years.)

Thanks again SteveG, I got one. As for the “seals” can someone show me a pic of whatever seals go with a Progressive shock? I know what the bushings look like but seals for an aftermarket shock?

Thanks Larry but the remote adjustable versions were just too expensive so I went with the standard version. Hopefully I’ll get the Sag set and won’t have to deal with it again.

A “salty SOB” eh? Would you say that to my face? I didn’t think it was “cute” either, just a comment. How bout a link or two of my “salty” comments? I’m not sure what your problem is with me so why not just ignore me in the future and I’ll do the same.

The seals I'm talking about are with all the various bushings of the rear suspension links. (aka 'dogbones') After 40 years they are likely brittle and cracked. part # 38 in this link https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/honda ... k-absorber AND Part #40 in this link https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/honda ... chain-case
If you cannot find them anywhere locally (USA) try CMSNL.

Thanks Larry I think I saw those on my other 82. They look sorta like milk bottle caps. Never knew they were called seals. Can’t tell until it’s apart but hopefully the progressive shock that’s on it now was replaced a lot sooner than 40 years ago. Within a couple weeks I should be on the road.
