Why bother indeed but you are not the one in trouble with the originality police for having the wrong size/colour of washer on one side of the brakes so I'm trying to avoid incurring futher wrath.

Best not tell them I have replaced the tyres, the chain and sprockets and worst of all no doubt, the exhaust system which after a mere 44 years has rotted out. I must write and complain to Honda about that, the quality is not what it once was. My main ignition switch failed last year so that only lasted 43 years, sheesh.

I was not the one trying to reproduce original brake lines and red rubber rings. Just pointing out that searching for originality is a slippery slope. Happy to help anyone wishing to do that, but it’s a tough road.

Speaking from my over 30 years' experience as a judge in the classic automobile and "show car" events, at some of the most prestigious gatherings in the country:

Doing a restoration, there is only one way to do it: EXACTLY the same as the manufacturer did it.

Not almost.

Not better.

Not "close enough".

Exactly, the same. Otherwise, the experts of that particular thing you're doing, will recognize it immediately and see it as a failed attempt.

This concludes my input on the subject.

I like to disagree, at least as far as brake lines are concerned. Contemporary (note what that means) improvements that do not alter the original design/appearance significantly are always acceptable, even in the show circuit. here it is brake lines and stainless steel lines are perfectly fine.

No argument here.

I don't think that any concour judge will fault anyone from upgrading a safety item, especially brake lines.

But, if you're going to go to the trouble to duplicate the originals, then, they should be perfect reproductions without alteration or why even bother?

I have a set of OEM take offs that have been dry rotting in my shop attic for the past 35yrs or so, I doubt I’m the only hoarder out there but they would never go on any CBX I’ll ever own.

Usually, judges have a catalog of items and the corresponding points to be deducted, so yes, a 100 point resto is possible.

I steer clear of those types of judged events generally, but IMO replacement steel brake lines would take you out of the running for anything close to a perfect score.
