I have a friend who wishes to buy a Honda CBX 1000Z 1978 - He is keen to know if there are any manufacturer's mechanical faults or flaws associated with this particular model before he makes the purchase - Can anyone help? Advice would be much appreciated.

78/79 CBX Flaws
there is only one real flaw with the early models and that is the 35mm fork tubes flexing at high speed and in certain twisty circumstances when riding aggressively.
39mm tubes fix this and are an easy install but this is only needed for a rider that pushes the x alot or likes to run it out in 5th gear. some stockers dont do this....but i think most do. if your friend rides along at normal or normal plus speeds its not an issue
there was an article in the current icoa club mag the express where an 80 did great at a track day. if your friend wants a cc of this mag have him email me and we will send it to him
>>>>
even with this minor flaw.... the cbx is by far the best motorcycle of the era bar none and one of the few that actually increases in value so if you friend buys it and later decides to go another direction he should be able to get his money back or a bit more
>>>>
i say have your friend ride the cbx that is for sale and judge for himself.
if he is not sure about the condition of the x he can email mel watkins director of the cbx club in england cbx6meluk@aol.com who might be able to arrange an eval by a member on the bike for sale
bout it
