tubular handlebars

Should I or shouldn't I on my wire wheeled bike. The conversion is practically brainless it's so simple.

The "Superbike" bar conversion sure offers more versatility than the stock CBX bars. Only drawback is the fuse box.

Ah, but my wire wheeled bike has Suzuki GS1000 forks with CBX clamps. The forks are 37mm and I machined the clamps out to 37mm. Now I have an old Honda Silverwing. 37mm forks, same offset side to side as the CBX, fuses in the upper handlebar clamp. Round guages with idiot lights between the guages. There's a good chance that electrically it will be a plug in. If not, it'll be easy to convert. Silverwing has better calipers, if the rotors are the same dia, I might use the silverwing fork tubes and lowers. I also have an old goldwing wire front wheel. When I'm through I just might end up with a spare wire wheeled front with fork clamps and instruments for a CBX. Complete, ready to bolt up. But I'm lazy. Should I concentrate on the front? Is there anyone interested in it? It's easy to convert the rear wheel on a CBX to wire wheel, just use a '75/76 CB750F rear. There's no voltmeter but my bike has a Kawasaki alternater and they didn't come with one (didn't need one (not a Honda alternater (says a lot for Honda))).

Mike is spot on with this, as long as you have tank clearance you have multiple configs.... 8) Just think...Ace bars, swept back pipes with Goldie mufflers.... I could only dream... :wink:

Larry, your bike is BEAUTIFUL (notice caps) but it's not a "Ton Up" kind of bike. You need to get another CBX and transform it into something similar to my wire wheeled X.

In Europe Honda went from 35mm to 37mm to 39mm on the CB900F.
37mm handlebars with CBX look and fit are available, if that is what your issue was.

The LSL adaptor kits will fit. Jim Zemanek had one on one of the bikes in his shop. You will lose the fuse box, however. Rick's kits go over the fork tubes and sit on top of the stock upper triple clamp over the fuse box. You will keep it, but in order to get to it, you will have to remove the handlebars and the holder. This is the problem with most all of the Superbike handlebar conversion kits.

The LSL kit is available from Speigler USA. It's a nice looking kit, but you must re-locate the fuses. I don't know the cost. If you contact them, and talk to Matthias, tell him I sent you.

My kit is a simple billet piece that clamps the fork tubes in the same manner as the stock handlebars, straddling the fuse box. It looks like a new top triple clamp. Saddles for the tubular bars are machined on the top of the new piece. All fasteners are stainless sockethead. To access the fuses, only two screws need be loosened.

I bought one of the conversion kits from Rick years ago for my '80.
With some wide Superbike bars with a bit of a rise i was able to keep the stock throttle control. If you go too flat with the bars the throttle cables will bark the tank[guilty], and then you will have to get a Sportkit control.

That's the first time I've seen one of my kits in black. Nice.

Is it powdercoat, anodize, or paint? Given the sheen, I'd guess anodize.
