I have a 79 CBX. Are the gauge housings the same from a 79 to a 81? Thanks

I would think that the housings themselves are very similar if not identical.

The late model's wiring connectors used "mini pin" connectors and the early models used the standard size pins.

The part-numbers for the instrument housings are different. What the actual difference is, however, I don't know.
