The CBX stock fairing is heavy and a poor wind deflector. In fact, it seems (for me) to be worse than no fairing at all. I'm over 50 and I own several bikes (Vincent, BMW,Honda,Harley,Ducati), so I have some experience with various bodywork, but this '81 is my first CBX remodel. It will be ridden locally--not long-distance--and I want to install a sport fairing on it. The sport fairing on my Vincent is very lightweight, but frame-mounted, similar to the Norton, but I prefer a fork-mounted fairing, like on my 100S (with which I'm very familiar). This bike will retain the stock frame, but it will have lots of upgrades and polishing. Your thoughts, please?

I really think the essence of the CBX is it's motor which (to me) seems a crime to hide. GIVI make some good bikini (or fork mounted) fairings which work well for me. A German company (help me here Mike ) made a full dolphing fairing to accomodate the wide engine. Also Mototumbi (from Australia) make a Paul Dunstall "replica fairing" which will fit, with changes to the handlebars & controls & supplied hardware, which would also need rearset footrests to make it useful; It being quite racy........

One option I aways liked was a replica Suzuki 1980 GS 1000s (Wes Cooley) fairing which looks good and with the lower lip fits the CBX size better in my view than the small bikini fairings. I had this fairing on my X for a while then put it on my 1975 Goldwing which is shown on the photo below (Note the back had to be trimmed by 1.5" or so because this Wing had almost trials bike steering lock to lock). I think Bill Mabanta has this fairing on his CBX Custom. I will see if I can find a photo of this for you and post it


Another option is a Buell fairing on a CBX ...in this case this CBX has a 8" headlight....

This is a rough rendition of Mikes suggestion. Painted to match, I think it would look nice.....

A company named " Maier" makes replicas of both the round headlight (GS1000S) and square ehadlight (CB1100F) fairings. Decent quality and moderately priced.
The German full fairing maker could have been "Habermann". There was also "Pichler". They were contemporary full fairings which were at least as heavy as the Hondaline fairing.
Another, less expensive, alternative is the EMGO Viper fairing for around $55.00. I put one each on my GB500s:

It is really superfluous as they are no longer available, but as Larry mentioned them..here is the Pichler fairing



and this is a Habermann.

They do pop up occasionally on E-Bay. de.....

You can do it two ways using the services on this site:

You can post any picture you have, provided it is a maximum of 650 pixels wide, 800 pixels high, either in the CBX Photo Album (see navigation bar on top) or in your own private album (click on your own profile button in any message and follow the link to your personal gallery) by using the "upload pics"button.
After you post it there, open it and copy the link in the browser window.
Then you start a message and you click on the Img button below the subject line, paste the picture link right behind it and then click on the Img button again. Done.

Bay Architect, I e-mailed you a few pics of my '80 with a GS1000S style fairing. I think the size works well with the CBX.
