20 tooth offset countershaft sprocket
I'm going to have MRE make me some countershaft sprockets. I need 20 tooth for the turbo, it will not be offset. I need 18 tooth for another X that will be offset to clear a 6" rear wheel with 200/50x17 tire. If you need one, let me know and we can combine our order to save some $$$.

The 20 teef no offset could be as cheap as $125. Or as much as the offset sprocket. That'll be around $200. Depends on whether he can do the 20 teef with a blank or from scratch. The offset will be approx 1/4" offset. If you use a 5.5" wide wheel with a 180/55-17 tire, you don't need an offset sprocket. Use a counter shaft sprocket for 530 chain and install it with the shoulder to the inside. Most rear sprockets are thicker at the teeth then where they bolt up to the wheel. They bolt up with the teeth sticking out from the wheel. You can usually flip them over and get the teeth closer to the wheel. If you're going to put a 5.5 wheel on a CBX, find a bike with the wheel you're going to use and see how close the chain rides to the tire. You'll find that some bikes have more offset for the sprockets from the centerline then others. For me, if the bike has a 180/55 tire, and I can barely get the tip of my pinky finger between the chain and tire, it'll work on a CBX. If you're still using 630 chain, switch to 530 when you do the conversion.

And if you use the 20 teef, check out different chains. Some have end plates that are not as wide as others. The wide end plates will have more of a tendancy to hit the engine. When I put mine on, I'm going to take my dremel and clean up the engine where it comes close because at speed it will probably touch.

Nothing that a miracle can't cure, Larry. 630 chain is MUCH larger then 530. A 15 toof 630 chain countershaft sprocket is about the same size diameter wise as a 18 toof 530 chain. You would have to grind a big slot in the engine case for the chain not to rub with a 20 tooth made for 630 chain. But the chain would be lubricated real good (until all the oil leaked out). Have you considered going to a 530 chain? Lighter, quieter, and (usually) better selection of rear sprockets. If you're looking to gear your bike taller, and your chain is in good condition, and I realise you're on a fixed income now (retired), just get a smaller rear sprocket. Dymags are usually capable of fitting reasonably small sprockets in the rear. And it should be a lot cheaper then a larger, custom-made countershaft. The reason I'm going with a larger cs is because with the rear wheel on my turbo, I can not fit a sprocket smaller then 42 and keep the cush-drive.

I have a VFR 750 single sided swingarm on my turbo X. The smallest sprocket that can fit on the vfr cush drive is 42. That's it. Anything smaller and the chain hits the nuts that hold on the sprocket. And I don't want my chain hitting my nuts. Could cause premature wear or worse, break something.

If Kayeboo was with me right now, she would say "Gee, you're so powerful--------SMELLING. Take a shower!". The fan clutch on my truck won't engage to spin the fan. If I sit there idling, the engine overheats. When I'm moving it's okay with the breeze blowing through the engine bay but it was warm and muggy in Austin, TX last night.
